Turf Removal

The Municipal Water District of Orange County, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, and your local water agency bring you the Turf Removal Program (Program). The goals of this program are to increase water use efficiency within Orange County and reduce runoff leaving the properties, which eventually enters the ocean.

Through this Program, residential and commercial customers of participating retail water providers are eligible to receive incentives for removing turfgrass from their properties (for qualifying projects).

Your participation in this Program is voluntary and is encouraged by your local water agency. Maximum rebate paid will not exceed the overall project costs, as described in the program application.
The Turf Removal Program is currently accepting waitlist applications in some water agencies. If your water agency is not accepting waitlist applications, you will not be able to apply to the Program. Do not start your project until you have had your on-site pre-inspection (all project turfgrass must be present at the time of the pre-inspection), and you receive your "Letter to Proceed." Projects started prior to receiving the pre-inspection and Letter to Proceed will not be funded (no exceptions). You will be notified by email should your project come off the waitlist, and your pre-inspection will be scheduled.
Non-Waitlisted applications are still being accepted for customers of El Toro Water District, Irvine Ranch Water District, and Moulton Niguel Water District.
Thank you for your interest in the Turf Removal Program!
